Survival Chic Says - Be Sure to Prep... but do it with Style

3 Really Simple things you can do to Simplify... and Prepare

I don't know about you ... but i am OVER the 10 ways to do this or 10 ways to do that.   I need a couple of things I can put in my everyday schedule and see real benefit.   Here are my 3.  Which by the way is a number you can actually do....

1.   Eat Real Food.  Sure everyone says that.  But this is what we do 2 nights a week.  We cook something big (and real) the night before for a dinner.  Then the next night we have a leftover version but we always add a BIG SERVING of an amazing CHEAP veggie.  My current favorite... Olive Oil Drizzled Potatoes.   These end up costing about 50 cents for a pan full and there are always enough left overs I see other household members popping them into the microwave the next day.

2.  Declutter and simplify.    The rule of thumb to de clutter is.... slow down, simplify, sense, surrender, apply self-care.    This mumbo jumbo means to think about an object, decide if it is important in a new simpler life, be able to let it go, and then realize you have helped yourself because of it.    What we do...  We take two big garbage bags around the house EVERY WEEK.  One gets items that really should go to the garbage, the other gets donation items.  I simply cannot tell you have great it feels to see TWO big bags at the end.  ONe in the car to be dropped at goodwill, one out on the bin for the trashman.

3.  Make a happy time.   Again sounds easy but here is what we do.   WE pick a night when everyone is around and we ALWAYS watch an old comedy.  We have also gotten in the habit of doing a TBT (throw back thurs) pic we email around to each other earlier in the day.   WE don't do it on facebook.. we are a private family... but it is always good for a laugh before we all get together for a movie night.

4.  Bonus Round.   We joined a movement called unplug 30.  The goal is to unplug from the internet, social media and more at least 30% of the time.   We unplug Mid thurs and don't replug till Fri am.. our movie nights are strictly VCR.  Ditto Sunday am which is set aside for church.   I also find i set my morning garden hours to be media free... just me and the new growth... and the bugs of course...

Get simple and happy
