Survival Chic Says - Be Sure to Prep... but do it with Style

The Never Ending (Story of Our) Fence

First some history.    The Castle was built in a series of big efforts over about 50 years.  It is primarily poured concrete and somewhat ingenious scavenging.    Case in point... our steel garden fences.    We are near an old army base that was overhauled after world war II so from time to time when we look at a particular component of the place we say 'ah.. that must of been salvage from the base.

We have hundreds and hundreds of feet of this fence.  And our goal was to dress it up to look like a proper garden fence.     So we got several different toppers for the fence poles which had to be attached.   We settled on pineapple toppers for our main fence posts and we picked a beautiful hammered copper color to replace the never rust galvanized aluminum.   Yes we will have to repaint it from time to time... but we don't like the battleship grey of the various 'fence parts' that are here...

Choosing Toppers

The scale of our restoration project shows in this photo above.  At one point there were beautiful gardens, lawns and ivy covered towers.  We are bringing it back stone by stone.

More to come on our never ending story... and  fence...
